Program called wireshark or something

Ok, it says filter on ICMP but I can't find that :(

Check router logs or download wireshark to look at incoming traffic (he could be using UDP/TCP/ICMP). However he is probably using a botnet (a group of infected computers ) to ping you, meaning he is not directly part of the attack

Pff that sucks

But how can I filter on ICMP? I don't see anything at ICMP and he isn't pinging me right now

Anybody "pinging" you (what a stupid fucking inaccurate term, hence why you can't find information) isn't going to do it on icmp.

It's called a DoS (if one attacker) or DDoS (if multiple attackers). Using the word "ping" has originated in the Tibia culture because people have no clue what the hell they are talking about.

I knew that, but when going to DoS/DDoS you need to use cmd with command ping right?

Reset your router, pull the plug n all the wires on that bitch. Let it stay off for a few mins, then plug it back in. Usually resets your IP.
I haven't done that ina min but awhile ago it workd.
I'm pretty sure theres a command you can put in the CMD promt but I dont know it by heart.

There was an IP release or some shit, but that never seemed to work for me.

It would depend on whether you have a static or dynamic IP address.
Go to www.whatismyip.com and note down ur current IP address, then unplug ur router/modem for 60 seconds, then re-plug it back in and check if it has changed.
If not, then you may have to leave it unplugged for 24 hours.

Before/During you're changing your IP, find out how he has obtained it otherwise changing ur IP is almost pointless.
The easiest ways he could get ur IP is:

Getting ur IP through skype is easy as fuck and can be done without even having you on the contact list. (I've had to make several new skype accounts because of this, and only give my skype out to friends)
If you're using a vent or Team speak server, make sure everyone who has the admin rights hasn't given yours out. Ask someone to check the logs if possible.
If you visited a link that someone posted, you could have been redirected through a site without even knowing, which would give that person ur IP.

Don't talk to random people on skype, don't add random people from tibia on skype, or let them know ur skype name.
Don't enter vent or team speak servers without knowing and trusting ALL admins.
Never goto links that people post in game, unless you are COMPLETELY sure they are legit.

And as of protecting urself against these attacks, I'm sure there is some way you could do it, but I guess it would be complex and time consuming, I think hiding ur IP is easier by doing the above steps.
"A little birdy told me" that he uses a botnet website from Brazil, It's insane and you can literally DDOS someone REALLY HARD with just a few clicks of the mouse, and tracing it back to who actually initiated it is not going to happen.

Honestly, I have many people who would love my IP address and who do and have DDOS'd me a lot in the past, although they haven't been able to get it for over 6 months now, you just gotta be careful :)

If that doesn't work, you should go into your router settings via the browser and clone MAC address which should change your ip. I used this method because resetting router/modem didnt work for me.

Inaccurate term yes , " Using the word "ping" has originated in the Tibia culture because people have no clue what the hell they are talking about" Negative , 4 years ago i asked my teacher how to ping people and he pretty much showed me how to do it and im pretty sure he didnt play tibia , anybody who understand was DoS and what a botnet is will understand the inaccurate term "pinging somebody" its not tibia term :P

Just becuase he didn't understand the term doesn't make it proper. And literally every other gaming community says "boot", "hostboot," or "dos", not "ping"

Everybody needs to see this! All i ever hear from my friends is "OHH IM GETTING PINGED JAJAJAJAJ" lol pisses me off so much lol.

@Xeromex (http://forums.xenobot.net/member.php?u=8816)

you can get a new ip sometimes by unplugging your router or you can even request a new one from your isp if you explain to them what's happening! then once you've done that don't go into skype/vent/any voip or messenger service or any website links from/with anyone you don't know or anyone you don't trust.

or if you don't want any restrictions you should use a *high quality VPN to hide your real ip from 99% of these kids attacking you.

* because low quality = lagg

edit: Also using a vpn while they still have your current ip will do NOTHING you need a new ip first.

You can find some good free VPN software if you google it and Hotspot Shield is a decent one but sometimes can be laggy but it can play tibia and skype pretty well most of the time

The best way to change your IP is to change your router's MAC address in the control panel. By changing the MAC, the modem will think it's a different device and try to keep the old IP reserved for the "old device," giving you a new IP.

1. Unplug modem
2. Change router MAC address, just by 1 character or so
3. Plug modem in
4. ??? profit

According to Google, I can't change my IP.

I have fiber internet by KPN(dutch provider) and they blocked it or something :/

I'm still going to try the MAC Address thing.
I also closed my ports (7171)

DarkstaR

Closing ports does nothing, and 7171 does double nothing.

Hmm, I might have found the fuckin IP of that idiot.

Any way to attack him back and see if he gets kicks?

Can you explain why it wouldn't help to close ports? If they can't pass any packets through the ports, shouldn't that solve it? Or they still can overload your connection even if ports are closed? I am no expert on this... just trying to get a lil bit more insight in how it works (without reading a bunch -lazy-).
Also if they use ports, which ones do they use?

I found something called a **Smurf** attack in my router log
Any chance this could be the DDoSer?

The data has to get to the machine with closed ports before it realizes they are closed. That means you can still clog the wire.

Think of plumbing. Sure, you can close a valve, but that's not gonna stop the 100psi of water in the pipe from keeping everything before the valve blocked.

Not familiar with that terminology.

Anyway to discover if the IP I found is from the DDoSer?

Call your ISP and ask if that IP is on the official GTYN DDoS registry.

Sometimes I find it amusing how little people understand not only networking but computers in general. And then come on forums and games and use words they've heard elsewhere and try to sound like they know what they are talking about.

As if that wasn't bad enough, people actually get away with this shit in big companies. I work for a very large software development company (even people in third world countries know of it) and people on our network team don't even know what they are talking about with this shit. It is unreal.

I also closed my ports (7171)

im from the netherlands also and had the same problem, there is NO FREE WAY to change your ip with kpn. I´ve been pinged in the past also and believe me i´ve tryed everything to change it.(mac adres change manuelly , even tryed some program - restart router - take routers energy off for 1 day etc. etc.) Even called with kpn alot e-mail alot and stuff , but there is no way they can change your ip they will tell you. I was lucky i moved and recieved another ip because of that. Also you can get another ip from kpn when you upgrade your internet connection -10 euros/month more?+/-. Now how i keep my ip hidden from my enemys : im using my laptop with some free vpn, pm me for the name if u need it , i use skype , ventrillo on my laptop with vpn and play tibia without laggs on my pc :)

if you got any other questions feel free to pm me

@ if u need a program to do that shit back pm me i know one that costs 5 euro/month to do that shit :)
