Hey everyone,
I've had this current laptop for like 5 years now- it's an alienware M17x -and it's been excellent so far. I recently had to restore it since it was getting a bit slumpy and slow, but it jumped back to life without any issue at all.
I do, however, notice that I need to vastly increase my "PC knowlegde" per se, and learn all about how to get the most out of my current laptop.
Due to this, I would like to ask you (more experienced) guys for your help and knowledge:
1. What can I do to better maintain my laptop? (what software/freeware is worth using, what maintenance does it need, what should I clean and how often, etc.)
2. How would I go about to personally upgrade some hardware? (processor/ram, f.e., and what types/brands are the best cost-per-efficiency, etc.)
3. Lastly, this question is a bit curious: I remember my physics teacher teaching us electricity and using a laptop as an example: he said that laptops have some kind of chip with a layer of platinum in the middle of 2 plaques, where if there is an issue with said layer, the laptop discharges on corner areas. Unfortunately, I've noticed that on the bottom-left corner of my laptop (where I sometimes rest my forearm) I get a discharge and it really irritates me. Should I be worried about this? If so, what can I do to fix it?
