View Full Version : Who's getting the iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus?

Anyone? Just curious. I am considering it, but I have the iPhone 5 and it's still practically new.

Something to consider when replying: http://forums.xenobot.net/showthread.php?29598-Who-s-getting-the-iPhone-6-or-iPhone-6-Plus&p=367231&viewfull=1#post367231

I realize there are two "yes" options. The second basically means you will but don't plan to pre-order. ;)

you should offer them 70% of what they are asking for them, i mean, they're over priced right?

The iphone is more of a social status as with anything this days, why wear Walmart clothes when you can wear Armani, Burberry and Gucci, why drive that gay little Honda when you can drive a GTR, Lambo, Ferrari. Its about the social recognition and status you get then merely being able to drop your phone in water, or customize the customization feature. For this and other reasons i will probably get the 6. Iphone > everyone else.

Yeah, but why would you buy the Lambo when the Honda could do everything the Lambo could? Because it looks nicer? My iPhone gets so hot sometimes I can't even touch it. Fuck apple.

I can't wait until my contract is over on my iPhone so I can finally switch to android.

I might as well share why I use mine...

I tend to use iTunes a lot. So, the iPhone is convenient. Considering my car's audio interface is made for the iOS software (works much better than Android) I went with an iPhone for the first time two years ago (iPhone 5). I don't use any other Apple products, and I used to be a big Android user, too. I've been considering switching to the Galaxy. It has a ton of sweet features. But the iPhone 6 looks nice.

Yes, Android is fucking better, but I will still get my damn iPhone. Why? Because many many years ago I bought the best smartphone on the market and back then it was an iPhone. Thus, my journey started with essential everyday Apps that I am now fucking addicted to and use everyday. Now Androids are ahead on the smartphone-scene but I'm still using my fucking iPhone because I'm a lazy cunt who has everything set to iOS apps and all my accounts are bound to Apple somehow. Changing the phone will be a P.I.A and requires too much effort for a lazy bum like me to handle.

So, I will buy an outdated iPhone for overpriced prices, because they got me by the balls. Those bastards.

Will most likely buy one once my iPhone 5S is too old. Unfortunately I believe 5S is much nicer looking and it wont get old for at least a long time ahead. Also i cba go around with a fucking ipad in my pocket which is iPhone 6 sizes, jeez.

My first iPhone was the iPhone 5 and I still have it. I'm planning on keeping it until it breaks. I'm curious to see how long it will last. It has lasted more than two years so far, and it's still going strong. To be honest, I've never had any other cell phone last this long without any damage or decreased performance. I'm impressed with the iPhone 5, and may get another when this one dies. Until then, I'm going to enjoy contract-free, unlimited talk, text, and data (special offer because I'm not upgrading). I hate two year contracts.

Except it doesn't, it may be trendy, but it doesn't symbolize wealth, there's homeless people that have iPhones.
There are three reasons people buy Apple products, and of course once you have one Apple product, you need to have all Apple products to fully enjoy any experience. I consider that a reason to get Android, not a reason to keep buying Apple shit.

1) because it's simple (Android is arguably just as simple depending on the manufacturer)
2) because everyone else does it. (trendy)
3) for work (want to develop for the iPhone? better have a damn Mac)

The problem with Android is it gets grouped together with lower-end phones as well.
If you buy a $50 Android phone, it's most likely going to be a shitty experience, you can't compare that to an iPhone or S3 or HTC One, etc.

Since the price of an iPhone6 varies between €700 and €1000 depending on the type, without a contract, I think I might switch to a samsung galaxy s5 instead. I'd prefer an iphone but this is simply overpriced compared to other phones IMO.

I perfer Android. I still like Apple for giving Android phones a little competition. Competition benefits end-users greately... Just look on CPU's for gaming now vs a few years ago before AMD gave up and focused on low power and other customers. ATM i got a old Nokia from pre 2000 and cant even recieve MMS tough. Had it a few months and dont really miss the "smartphone" things yet. Plan is to get Sony Z3 when it is released and whenit gets an OK price

Is it too expensive?
Don't need to upgrade your phone?
Don't feel it is worth upgrading your phone?
Do you just hate Apple?

I thought I would but more or less...

Does not justify the price
I definitely need an upgrade but the only thing I would be glad about is the OS, not the device
I do not hate Apple, I actually used to like them but in this world you gotta open your eyes to see that it's just wasted money when you can get the same or even better for a lower price

Why do you have to get a 2 years contract?

That's just how the phone companies are with most new cell phones in the USA. You can buy an unlocked iPhone for *full* price, but you need to still have a contract to have a "good" phone plan. Most contract-free plans are not that good. Actually, they can be worse than contract plans because of the fees.

I see no point in paying twice for a device with less "free access". An iphone is great for one reason, and one reason only. Everything works on it It barly ever crashes unless the memory is full.
But that doesn't make up for the price they charge. And you're not allowed to do much on a apple device. Androids users can basicly ue their phones as computers. Even download torrents.

I agree about the price (of an unlocked phone), but for a contract, it's the same price as all of Samsung's Phones here in the U.S., and I can sure as hell do torrents and whatnot on my iPhone. About 98% of my movies/music, etc. are all from online sources.

Wow, those poll results. It's strange. I suppose XenoBot members are a horrible pool of individuals to collect data from. According to several sources, the iPhone is still the most popular phone in the world, with more than 500 million sold (worldwide) as of June 2014 (all iPhone models up to 5C & 5S).

The iPhone 6 & 6 Plus are expected to be the most sold iPhone's yet (http://www.theverge.com/2014/10/20/7022335/apple-q4-2014-earnings). In one quarter, they sold nearly 40 million phones. That's approximately 3 months.

Apple said it sold 39.2 million phones, up big from the 33.8 million iPhones it sold during the same quarter last year.

J.Dre It isn't the fact that we are bad for data collections. It's the fact that a large portion of this community isn't mind walking zombies that have to have the most over priced phone on the market. Every time I see the Android commercial on tv it makes me laugh because it's so true.

Generally, with personal investments, you really should not be investing in individual corporations like Apple unless you have very high confidence or you feel like making minimal gains, IMHO.

Mutual funds have much higher annual returns, and even the riskiest ones are less risky then even the most reputable corporations. If you want to invest in things like Apple and Google, the best way is through a tech-centric mutual fund that happens to invest in both companies, along with hundreds of others. Honestly, though, I find biotechnology and general utility funds to have the best returns. I'm gaining around 20% annually with this strategy.

Not, no its not. Android sells from many companies because its an open platform that encourages any hardware vendor to use it. iOS sells from a single company because it doesn't let anyone else use it. Hardware isn't the discussion here, it's software. and if you try to argue that hardware is part of the iPhone, then that's even worse, as most of the iPhone hardware is made by Samsung. Including the flagship "retina" displays.

I'm not arguing anything.

You said I'm retarded because I reported that there are 500 million Apple iPhone's sold. Then you said, there are more than 900 million Android ACTIVATED devices. So, it does matter for the sake of discussion because for every activated device there is an Android device sold. You can't have an activated device without a physical representation of hardware, having first been sold to a customer. So, hardware technically is related to this discussion because of the software tied to it (i.e. activated Android's).

EDIT:

Now it's turning into an argument... But I won't take part beyond this post. I believe you are intentionally starting arguments with me because you get a thrill out of proving people wrong, and that's exactly what you are attempting to do. You obviously have some issues with manifesting tendencies to outrage. I won't be your enabler. We have not had a single conversation without you first insulting me in one way or another. I find your inability to have a mature, calm and adult-like conversation to be quite disturbing.

Whatever I did to upset you, I apologize, but that does not justify your rude remarks. You need to let things go and move on.

DarkstaR
11-06-2014, 04:56 PM
Hardware doesn't matter if we're talking about the OS, it does matter if we're talking about the vendor. Andriod is an OS, not a specific vendor, so in Android v.s. iOS, it is not relevant. In Galaxy v.s. iPhone, though, it is. Also, calling you a retard, or whatever, has nothing to do with this thread specifically. It just so happens that your overall personality and nearly every point you make is retarded.

Lastly, you are stating a bunch of facts and figures, and when I refute them, you try to give more information as to why they still fit your view. That, by definition, is an argument. And it takes 2 to argue, buddy. But okay.

Back to the topic... So, we have a very large majority of people who aren't purchasing the iPhone 6, but not many replies as to why. Feel free to share. I'm curious.

Because it is a closed platform provided by a narcissistic company, and is less capable than the open alternative. It also has very few hardware variants compared to the competition. It doesn't follow any of the industry standards (instead of microUSB, it uses thunderbolt; the fast charge interface over USB uses an entirely different protocol and is incompatible with non-apple speed chargers; the headphone/microphone port has swapped pins for ground and mic, making it incompatible with non-apple amplified headsets [like turtle beaches]; their applications basically require you to use the Apple suite of tools for content delivery; you don't have strait-forward direct file system access; the list goes on).

Lastly, many people must find it ironic that Apple will sue companies constantly for "stealing their ideas", and yet they stole a feature from one of the most classical products in the world: the bendy straw.

I'm not buying iPhone 6 or 6 Plus cause I still feel like it was yesterday when I bough my 5s, and seeing that 6 Plus tends to "bend", no thanks.
I'll be buying next 2015 iPhone I guess :)

they stole a feature from one of the most classical products in the world: the bendy straw.

Just lol'd, two co-workers iPhone 6s already bent after about 2 weeks.
