Sorry to be afraid of hacking these days is it normal for xenobot to randomly update with nothing posted about the update anywhere on the forums???

Could be a random patch to something that was bugged, could be an old update and you haven't re-opened the bot in a while.

As stated in both of your threads, XenoBot will always stay up-to-date. If you are behind on updates for whatever reason, even if they're 3 weeks old, they will be downloaded.
You're smart to be concerned about hacking, however. It's always possible that somebody with access to you network can spoof the update server and send fake updates. This is the same for any software, not just XenoBot.
Luckily, I've foreseen such types of attacks and ensured that they're not possible by strongly signing the XenoBot binaries using private-key encryption that is impossible to replicate unless you have the private key, and only I have it. So, even if there were malicious updates sent to your bot, it's impossible for them to harm you; XenoBot will not only automatically refuse to run any unsigned or incorrectly signed updates, but it will refuse to run altogether, while altering you to the problem.
TL;DR; it's mathematically certain that you're safe as far as XenoBot updates are concerned, don't worry :)
