Western Union has extremely high transfer fees, and not without good cause. It is the most abused payment system on the internet, with over 3,000 fraudulent payments being made every month, it is a minefield of legal battles. The case of Siyed Asem and Syed Bukhari is quite well publicised, a father and son team whom together stole £50k by telling residents of a community that they would wire the monies to their home country, to their families, after setting up a "western union store" completely legitimately, then simply not sending the money. In this case 4 of the people who attempted to wire money were arrested on suspicion of fraud when their money was found in the accounts of the two illegal immigrants.
