Whether you waste or not at that level has nothing to do with where you hunt and all to do with how you hunt. Just set your magic shooter to stop using attack spells at a mana percentage that is higher than your threshold for drinking mana potions and you will profit almost anywhere. Also, use Apprentice's Strike instead of the regular strike spells. Depending on where you hunt some exceptions can be made for dangerous monsters.
