Because it is a closed platform provided by a narcissistic company, and is less capable than the open alternative. It also has very few hardware variants compared to the competition. It doesn't follow any of the industry standards (instead of microUSB, it uses thunderbolt; the fast charge interface over USB uses an entirely different protocol and is incompatible with non-apple speed chargers; the headphone/microphone port has swapped pins for ground and mic, making it incompatible with non-apple amplified headsets [like turtle beaches]; their applications basically require you to use the Apple suite of tools for content delivery; you don't have strait-forward direct file system access; the list goes on).

Lastly, many people must find it ironic that Apple will sue companies constantly for "stealing their ideas", and yet they stole a feature from one of the most classical products in the world: the bendy straw.
